  • The change in consumer behavior driven by the millennial generation’s move towards experiences over tangible goods, caused the industry to boom. Outdoor activities became a preferred source of entertainment during lockdowns and COVID restrictions. 
  • Athletic footwear volume was up above 21% in 2021 over 2019 and active apparel volume was up more than 25%.  Apparel wasn’t the only category seeing this lift, outdoor equipment gear was also up. Kayak sales grew by almost 30%, backpacking tents up by almost 50% and sleeping bags up by 28%.
  • Exit multiples have remained at all-time highs as brand roll-up strategies continue and competition for acquisitions heats up.
